The WBC light flyweight championship fight between champion Rodel Mayol (26-3-2, 20 KOs) and #1 contender and former champion Omar Niño (27-3-2, 11 KOs) ended in a third round technical draw on Saturday night at the Coliseo Olimpico de la UG, Guadalajara, Mexico. In round three, Niño hit Mayol with a clear low blow and while Mayol was waiting for referee Vic Drakulich to step in, Niño threw a left hook that knocked Mayol out cold. Mayol, who had drawn the WBC’s ire by questioning his ability to get fair officiating in Mexico, kept his title despite being taken from the ring on a stretcher.
WBC Youth lightweight beltholder Daniel Estrada (22-1, 17 KOs) scored a tenth round TKO over Angel Alirio Rivero (21-8-1, 14 KOs). Estrada was on the deck in round two and the bout was competitive until the bout was stopped in the tenth.
