Lopez tops Dragoncito, Canelo brother wins

#4 WBO/#5 WBC rated light flyweight Gangian “Maravilla” Lopez (24-5, 15 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over WBC #8 and former IBF minimumweight champion Mario “Dragoncito” Rodriguez (16-9-4, 11 KOs) in a bout for the WBC International title on Saturday night at the Polideportivo Río de Janeiro in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. “Dragoncito” pressed the action and seemed to give as good as he got, but it was Lopez sharpshooting from long range that impressed the judges. Scores were 118-110, 119-109, 120-109.

Jr middleweight Ramon “Innocente” Alvarez (17-4-2, 10 KOs) scored an easy second round TKO against overmatched and much smaller journeyman Gilberto Flores (23-14, 18 KOs). Alvarez is the brother of former world champions Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Rigoberto Alvarez, and jr welter Ricardo Alvarez.

Unbeaten featherweight Jorge “Pilon” Lara (25-0-1, 17 KOs) won a ten round majority decision against Jairo “Peligroso” Hernandez (10-5, 3 KOs). Hernandez came on strong over the second half of the fight but came up short. Scores were 95-95, 97-96, 96-94.

Unbeaten super bantamweight Horatio Garcia (24-0, 16 KOs) demolished Cesar Saucedo (10-1-1, 5 KOs), dropping Saucedo once in round one and twice in round two.
