WBC #2 welterweight “Mini-Tyson” Selcuk Aydin (19-0, 15 KOs) scores a ninth round KO over #3 “Sugar” Jackson Bonsu (30-3, 23 KOs) in a bout for the European championship as well as a WBC final eliminator for the right to face WBC welterweight world champion Andre Berto, on Saturday night at the Besiktas Cola Turka Arena in Istanbul, Turkey. “Both fighters showed great heart and absolute championship potential”, stated promoter Ahmet Öner. “Selcuk will need a little rest but then we will go directly after Berto. He has proved that he is one of the best and toughest welterweights in the world today.”

“I thank my promoter Ahmet Öner for giving me the chance to fight in Istanbul in front of my Turkish fans”, says Aydin. “It means a lot of me to present my abilities in my home country. I am very proud of my performance – especially under the eyes of honourable president Dr. Sulaiman whom I want to thank for coming all the way from Mexico and I hope that we will bring the world title fight to Turkey again so I can bring the big Green Belt to the Bosporus.”

Longtime contender Gianluca Branco (43-2-1, 22 KOs) outpointed journeyman Janos Petrovics (16-27, 8 KOs) in a welterweight six-rounder. Branco has now won seven straight since coming up short in a world title bid against Miguel Cotto.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
