Kim, Provodnikov victorious

In an IBF lightweight eliminator, #6 rated Ji Hoon Kim (21-5, 18 KOs) scored a first round TKO over #4 Ameth Diaz (27-10, 19 KOs) on Friday night at the Laredo Energy Arena in Laredo, Texas. Diaz got off to a good start, but Kim flattened him with a right hand at the end of round one. Diaz beat the count, but was deemed unable to continue. Time was 2:59.
Unbeaten jr welterweight prospect Ruslan Provodnikov (16-0, 11 KOs) scored a ninth round TKO over late sub Emanuel Augustus (38-32-6, 20 KOs). Provodnikov dropped the 35-year-old veteran Augustus in round five with a big right hand but Augustus survived Provodnikov’s follow up assault. Provodnikov floored Augustus twice in the ninth and the bout was waved off by referee Rafael Ramos. Time was 1:50. The popular Augustus took the fight on four days notice.

Junior welterweight Orlando Gomez (2-1, 0 KOs) won a four round majority nod over previously unbeaten Jose Martinez (5-1, 3 KOs). Scores were 38-38, 39-37, 40-36.
