Junior welterweight Mauricio Herrera (16-1, 7 KOs) stunned previously unbeaten Ruslan Provodnikov (17-1, 11 KOs) taking a close twelve round unanimous decision on Friday night at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas. The WBO #7 rated Provodnikov was aggressive as usual, producing a large mouse under Herrera’s left eye, but Herrera came on down the stretch to take a 115-113, 116-112, 116-112 verdict. The bout was for the vacant IBF North American title.
Unbeaten jr middleweight prospect Demetrius Andrade (12-0, 8 KOs) kept his unbeaten record intact with a lackluster eight round unanimous decision over Alberto Herrera (7-2-1, 5 KOs). Scores were 79-73, 80-72, 80-72. Andrade, a 2007 amateur world champion and 2008 U.S. Olympian, is scheduled to be back in action in February. Herrera is the brother of main event winner Mauricio Herrera.
