WBC lightweight champion Humberto Soto (52-7-2, 32 KOs) successfully defended his title against challenger Ricardo ‘Pelon’ Dominguez (31-6-2, 19 KOs), winning a twelve round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Estadio Centenario in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico. Scores were 118-110, 118-110, 117-112. The clash had local as well as worldwide significance as Soto hails from Los Mochis and Dominguez is from nearby Culiacan.
Super featherweight Joksan ‘Torito’ Hernandez (20-2, 13 KOs) scored a ninth round TKO over Daniel ‘Canerito’ Ruiz (18-3, 12 KOs). The bout was waved off to save Ruiz from further punishment. Time was 1:29. Another good performance for Hernandez, who defeated the then-unbeaten Miguel Beltran Jr. in his last fight.
Unbeaten super bantamweight prospect Roberto Marroquin (14-0 11 KOs) scored an impressive second round KO over Arturo ‘Tyson’ Camargo (22-15-2, 19 KOs). Marroquin, who lives and trains in Dallas, dropped Camargo once in round one and twice in round two.
