WBC #14 heavyweight Tony “The Tiger” Thompson (34-2, 22 KOs) scored an impressive fourth round TKO over Owen Beck (29-5, 20 KOs) in a battle of former heavyweight title challengers on Friday night at the Omni New Daisy Theater in Memphis, Tennessee. The 38-year-old Thompson simply battered Beck until Beck’s corner threw in the towel. Time was 2:50.
In a clash of undefeated lightweights, “Hammerin'” Hank Lundy (18-0-1, 10 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over Tyrese Hendrix (18-1-1, 7 KOs) in a bout for the vacant NABO title. Lundy dropped Hendrix twice in round one. The first knockdown should have been ruled a double knockdown, but only Lundy got credit. Lundy floored Hendrix again in round six and went on to win by scores of 98-90, 100-88, 99-88.
Unbeaten jr welterweight Lanard Lane (12-0, 7 KOs) won a six round unanimous decision over faded 41-year-old veteran John Brown (24-18-2, 11 KOs). Scores were 60-54, 60-54, 60-54. Brown has challenged for IBF world titles four times, but only has one victory in the last nine years.
