Palacios punishes Ramirez!

By Gabriel F. Cordero

WBC interim minimumweight champion Juan Palacios (26-2, 21 KOs) retained his belt with a tenth round TKO over local favorite Eric Ramirez (25-7-1, 19 KOs) on Saturday night at the Centro Banamex in Mexico City. Palacios dominated the fight and referee Hector Afu finally waved off the beating in the tenth. Palacios and WBC champion Oledydong Sithsamerchai may now possibly meet in a showdown for the absolute WBC 105lb title this October in China.
Ana María Torres won a ten round unanimous decision over Ussanakorn Kokietgym in a clash for the WBC female super flyweight crown. Scores were 95-94, 98-92 and 96-94.
Former world champion Hugo Fidel Cazares (30-6-1, 22 KOs) needed just 66 seconds to demolish journeyman Margarito Lopez (10-23-1) in a super bantam clash.
Super bantamweight Melinda Cooper outpointed Miriam Avila over four by scores of 40-36, 40-36, 39-37.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
