Delvin Rodriguez used a late round surge to escape with a razor thin unanimous decision over Shamone Alvarez in the main event of ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights. Rodriguez (24-2-2, 14 KOs) struggled early by trying to adapt to Alvarez’s lefty attack, but seemed to wear Alvarez down starting with a flurry to end round eight. Rodriguez connected in round eleven landing a strong left hand, which sent Alvarez to the canvas. Alvarez (20-2, 11 KOs) was able to survive the eleventh and finished strong in the final round. It was not enough however as Rodriguez took the decision by scores of 114-113 twice and 115-112 to retain his USBA welterweight title.

Unbeaten welterweight prospect Raymond Serrano (9-0, 5 KOs) displayed his talents to a packed crowd at the Mohegan Sun Arena as he won an almost shutout unanimous decision victory over Catskill, NY’s Jay Krupp (12-2, 5 KOs). Scores of the bout were 60-53 twice and 58-55. Krupp was knocked to the canvas in round one by a straight right from Serrano. Serrano controlled the contest landing the harder and stronger punches throughout as he kept his opponent on the defensive throughout.

United States Olympian Demetrius Andrade made quick work of Ohio native Tim Joseph in the televised opener. Andrade’s speed advantage was evident immediately, and an uppercut just seconds into the fight sent Joseph into a permanent back pedal. Andrade (3-0, 3 KOs) spent the better part of the next minute chasing Joseph around the ring. With Joseph (4-2-1, 1 KO) cornered, Andrade unleashed a barrage of punches, and didn’t let up until referee Dick Flahrety jumped in to save Joseph at 1:53 of the opening round.

Frank Trader scored the first knockout of his young career, stopping outmatched Edwin Rosado in the second round. Trader (3-0, 1 KO) controlled Rosado throughout the short duration of the fight, landing his right hand at ease. Rosado (1-5, 1 KO) finally succumbed to the punishment, courtesy of another Trader right, and Dick Flaherty waved off the bout at 1:49 of the second.

Crusierweight Josh Harris (3-2-1 2 KOs) scored a first round knockout over David Williams (6-3-1, 2 KOs). Harris dropped with a right hook and referee Michael Ortega reached the count of 10. Time of the bout was :21

In the opening bout of the evening, Philadelphia’s Tyrone Miles (1-0) won a four round majority decision over Ontario, Canada’s Chris Aucoin (1-2-1). Scores of the bout were 39-37 twice for Miles and 38-38 draw.
