Top heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek (43-1, 28 KOs) moved a step closer to a world title shot with an impressive fifth round TKO over over Vinny Maddalone (33-7, 24 KOs) on Thursday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The much quicker Adamek pretty much had his way from the get-go, connecting with rapid-fire clean shots. Adamek floored Maddalone in round five and Vinny’s corner stopped the fight after Adamek punished the wobbly Maddalone some more. Time was 2:17.
Unbeaten middleweight Patrick Majewski (14-0, 9 KOs) scored a spectacular eighth round knockout over Eddie Caminero (7-4, 7 KOs). Cuts around the right eye hampered Majewski, but he rallied in the late rounds and knocked out Caminero in the last round. Time was 1:20.
Unbeaten Olympian welterweight Sadam Ali (11-0, 6 KOs) shut out Manuel Guzman, (7-10-2, 3 KOs) over eight rounds by scores of 80-72 on all cards.
Junior middleweight Gabriel Rosado (15-5, 8 KOs) won an eight round unanimous decison over Jose Medina (12-9, 5 KOs). Rosado dropped Medina in round three with a right hand and went on to win by scores of 79-72, 78-73 and 80-72.
Middleweight “Marvelous” Tarvis Simms (26-1-1, 11 KOs) was successful in his promotional debut with Main Events scoring a six round unanimous decision over Willis Lockett (12-11-5, 5 KOs). The 39-year-old Simms dropped Lockett in round one and looked like he’d finish Lockett early. The bout went the full six, however, with scores of 60-54, 60-53, 60-53.
Heavyweight Bryant Jennings (5-0, 3 KOs) scored a second round TKO over pro debuting Randy Smith. Time was 2:18.
Light heavyweight Angel Concepcion (4-0) outpointed pro debuting Lekan Byfield over four.
