Former cruiserweight king Jean-Marc Mormeck (34-4, 22 KOs) followed in the footsteps of his successor David Haye and another notable champion Tomasz Adamek by making a successful debut in boxing’s glamour division. Moments ago in Paris, Mormeck outpointed American journeyman Vinny Maddalone (32-6, 23 KOs) over eight hard-fought rounds in his first contest in two years since losing to Haye. Mormeck was more aggressive of two in the first three rounds, often slugging with bigger and stronger Maddalone. After round four, the ex-WBA and WBC titlist utilized his footwork to avoid the slow attack by the American, though the latter had some success in the middle of the bout. However, Mormeck was just too elusive and too fast in the end for Maddalone to get himself untracked. Scores were 77- 75, 79-75, 79-73.

French featherweight Khedafi Djelkhir (5-0, 4 KOs) tried hard but failed to finish Nicaraguan journeyman Bismarck Alfaro (11-8, 5 KOs), being extended to the full distance for the first time in his career. Djelkhir, who won a silver medal in an infamous first-round destruction from the hands of Vasyl Lomachenko in Beijing, was ready to stop game Alfaro in the last round but the guest fighter was able to survive till the final bell. A wide decision for Djelkhir is the outcome.
Canadian WBC super featherweight champion Olivia Gerula (12-10-2, 3 KOs) unified her regalia with those of interim champion Myriam Chomaz (12-2, 7 KOs), scoring a heated road decision over ten rounds.
Olympic lightweight silver medalist Daouda Sow (3-0, 2 KOs) outpointed Damien Martin (5-4-2, 2 KOs) over four.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
