Maldonado defeats Cruz

Lightweight slugger Fidel Maldonado (12-0, 10 KOs) kept his unbeaten record in tact with a close eight round unanimous decision over Erick Cruz (13-8-3, 13 KOs) on Friday night at the Pharr Convention Center in Pharr, Texas. Maldonado dropped Cruz in round one and that made the difference as he and went to to win an exciting scrap by scores of 77-74 and 76-75 twice. With the win, Maldonado claimed the vacant WBC Youth silver belt.

Unbeaten jr middleweight Jorge Suarez (5-0, 3 KOs) recovered from a first round knockdown to win a six round unanimous decision over Larry Smith (10-7, 6 KOs). Scores were 58-54, 57-77, 57-55.
