Unbeaten lightweight Brandon Rios is now 20-1, with 14 KOs, after a fifth-round technical knockout of Mexican Oscar Meza (18-3, 16 KOs) on Saturday night at Buffalo Bill’s Resort and Casino in Primm, Nevada. Both fighters gave their all in a back-and-forth slugfest. Meza was finally dropped at the start of round five and was counted out at 0:24 failing to beat the count.
Unbeaten featherweight Miguel Angel Garcia scored a third round TKO over Anthony Napunyi. The fight was stopped at 1:04 of the third after an unanswered barrage of punches by Garcia. Garcia is now 16-0, 13 KOs while Napunyi is 14-6, 7 KOs).
Olympian junior middleweight Vanes Martirosyan (24-0, 15 KOs) destroyed Harrison Cuello (18-10-2, 14 KOs) in round one. It was one-sided and the bout was stopped after Cuello was rocked with several hard punches and was taking punishment around the ring. Martirosyan next takes on rated Andrey Tsurkan on Top Rank’s Latin Fury 9 Pay-Per-View on June 27 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
Unbeaten prospect Robert Marroquin (7-0, 5 KOs) had a look of a future star in a six-round beating of the game journeyman Robert Da Luz (12-18-2, 9 KOs). Scores were 60-52 (thrice) all for Marroquin. Da Luz was down twice in the second round.
