Brinkley defeats Paschall!

By Robert Perea at ringside

Jesse Brinkley, 175, of Yerington, NV, won his eighth consecutive bout with a unanimous decision over Mike Paschall, 173, of Baltimore, MD at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada. Fighting at 175 pounds, the heaviest he’s ever been for a bout, and with just four and a half weeks to prepare, Brinkley said he wasn’t in peak condition. Nevertheless, he saved his best work for last, dominating the 10th round on his way to earning the nod on all three scorecards.
Rustam Nugaev of Perm, Russia joined his countrymen Fedor and Dmitry Chudinov as victors with a 6th round TKO of Orlando Membreno of Managua, Nicaragua. Both fighters weighed in for the bout at 137 pounds. Nuagev never knocked Membreno to the canvas, but he battered him enough in the sixth round to prompt Membreno’s corner to waive the white towel.
Unbeaten Matt Remillard 129 demolished Tyler Ziolowski 135 in the first round. Remillard is now 18-0, 10 KOs.
Derek Hinkey, 163, of McDermitt, NV took a 6-round unanimous decision over Loren Myers, 161, of Fresno, CA. Hinkey won the bout 58-56 on two of the judges’ scorecards, and 59-56 on the other. Myers was the busier of the two fighters, but Hinkey consistently scored in combinations.
The fifth bout of the night brought the first hint of controversy, as Andrae Carthron, 222, of Los Angeles won a 6-round majority decision over Tyler Hinkey, 258, of McDermitt, NV. Judge CJ Ross scored the bout a draw at 57-57, while Eric Cheek and Burt Clements each had 58-56 in favor of Carthron. The decision was unpopular with the crowd, which was vocal in its support of the local Hinkey.
Dmitry Chudinov, 164, of Moscow, Russia, stopped Otis Chennault, 163, of Atlanta, GA by TKO at 40 seconds of the first round. Chudinov (1-0, 1 KO) knocked Chennault (1-2) to the canvas about 20 seconds into the round, but Chennault quickly got to his feet. When the bout continued, Chudinov dropped Chennault again with a combination to the head, and referee Robert Byrd immediately stopped the fight.
Leo Santa Cruz, 119 of Lincoln Heights, CA stayed unbeaten at 9-0-1 (2KOs) with a unanimous decision over Johnathan Velardez, 118, of Houston, TX. Judges Eric Cheek and Herb Santos scored the bout 59-55 and Burt Clements had it 58-56 for Santa Cruz.
Fedor Chudinov needed just one punch to win his professional debut.
Chudinov, 167, of Moscow, Russia, landed a straight right to the jaw of Shawn Kirk, 167, of Lexington, KY, sending Kirk to the canvas. Referee Robert Byrd counted Kirk out in 33 seconds of the first round.
Andrew Rempp, 127, of Yerington, Nev. won a four-round unanimous decision over Jose Pacheco, 123, of Guanajuato, Mexico. Rempp, who is Brinkley’s cousin, won his first professional fight in three tries. He is now 1-1-1. Pacheco falls to 2-7-6.
