Former IBF featheright champion Robert Guerrero (24-1-1, 17 KOs) stopped late sub Efren Hinojosa (30-6-1, 17 KOs) via eighth round TKO in a lightweight clash on Friday night at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. Guerrero pretty much had his way with the 37-year-old veteran, who was very game until the bout was stopped between rounds eight and nine after Hinojosa suffered an arm injury. Manager Shelly Finkel confirmed that Guerrero will be challenging IBF junior lightweight champion Malcolm Klassen on August 22, 2009, from Houston, Texas on HBO. Klassen, fighting out of South Africa, has a record of 24-4-2, 14 KOs.
Unbeaten heavyweight Ashanti Jordan (10-0, 7 KOs) lumbered to a six round majority decision over Andrae Carthron (2-2-1, 1 KO). Scores were 59-55, 59-55, 57-57.
Unbeaten junior welterweight Danny Garcia (13-0, 8 KOs) scored a second round knockout over Pavel Miranda (18-4, 10 KOs). Garcia knocked down Miranda twice before the bout was stopped at :56 of the second.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
