In a very exciting fight, Scottish hero Ricky Burns (29-2, 7 KOs) shockingly dethroned previously unbeaten and heavily favored WBO super featherweight champion Roman Martinez (24-1-1, 15 KOs) on Saturday night at Kelvin Hall in Glasgow, Scotland. Martinez floored Burns in round one with a cracking right hand, but Burns was very game, hurting Martinez with an uppercut in round three. In a wild fifth round, both fighters rocked each other and Martinez wobbled back to his corner. It was Burns that was hurt again in round seven. Martinez continued to land bombs over the next few rounds. Burns came on strong in the twelfth staggering Martinez. Scores were 115-112, 115-112, 115-113.
