Agbeko defeats Darchinyan!

IBF bantamweight champion Joseph Agbeko (27-1, 22 KOs) took a hard fought unanimous decision over unified super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (32-2-1, 26 KOs) on Saturday night at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida. A close fight turned when Darchinyan scored a flash knockdown in round seven, however Agbeko took “The Raging Bull” out of his game in the eighth. Darchinyan rallied in the ninth, but was pretty busted up. Agbeko closed strong to win. Scores were 116-111, 114-113, 114-113.

In a WBC lightweight eliminator, Antonio DeMarco (21-1-1, 15 KOs) scored a ninth round KO over Anges Adjaho (25-2, 14 KOs). After a slow start, Adjaho pressed the action over the early rounds. DeMarco got on track in the fourth and staggered Adjaho in the sixth. Adjaho, however, turned the tables rocking DeMarco in the eighth. Adjaho was hurt and took a knee at the end of the ninth. DeMarco then grazed him on the back of the head while kneeling. Adjaho rolled over and was counted out. Time was 2:59.

In an IBF cruiserweight eliminator and battle between former world champions, Steve Cunningham (22-2, 11 KOs) outpointed Wayne Braithwaite (23-4, 19 KOs) over twelve. Good action boxer/puncher battle as Cunningham’s ring savvy overcame Braithwaite’s power punching. Scores were 119-109, 118-110, 117-111.

In a WBC welterweight eliminator, Ivan “The Terrible” Kirpa (23-1, 15 KOs) pounded out a hard fought twelve round unanimous decision over Miguel “Miki” Rodriguez (29-3, 23 KOs). Kirpa will now move on to a WBC final eliminator against another contender. Scores were 118-110, 120-108, 119-108.

WBC/WBA #3 cruiserweight Francisco Palacios (18-0, 11 KOs) destroyed Manu Ntoh (17-18-1, 4 KOs), The bout was stopped at 2:59 of round one.

Unbeaten bantamweight Victor Fonseca (15-0, 8 KOs) shut out faded former two-division world champion Mauricio Pastrana (35-11-2, 23 KOs) over eight. Scores were 80-71 on all cards.

Unbeaten lightweight Angelo Santana (6-0, 4 KOs) cruised past Jaime Rodriguez (4-5-3, 2 KOs) in a four-rounder. Scores were 40-36 on all cards.

Junior lightweight Archie Ray Marquez (5-0, 1 KO) dropped Jayson Hayward (6-7-1, 2 KOs) five times before the bout was stopped in round four. Time was 1:56.
