More than 100 delegates from 32 countries were in attendance at the European Boxing Union General Meeting held in Vienna on June 1. Almost all the European countries were represented at the meeting organized by the Austrian Federation FVA.
During the meeting of the board of directors held May 30 (representing the major boxing nations such as the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, France and Germany etc) it was decided unanimously, not to favour professional boxing taking place in the Olympic Games. This decision was supported almost unanimously by the representatives of 32 European countries during the General Assembly the following day.
President Bob Logist underlined once again the importance of the suspension list. Boxers suspended for medical reasons should never be affiliated by another organisation or federation.
The award for the boxer of the year went to Kubrat pulev ex-equo with Stephane Jamoye, the award of promoter of the year went to OPI 2000 Salvatore and Christian Cherchi and the fight of the year for Haskins versus Jamoye.
Vice President Charles Giles and Vice President Pertti Augustin presented a special award to Willibald Palatin and to Sauerland Events.
The Republic of Macedonia and Kosovo were accepted as full members, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Turkey as provisional.
Italy ( Brindisi ) will host the next general assembly and Serbia, Macedonia and Turkey are already candidates for the following years.
In the evening a typical Austrian gala dinner was offered by FVA to all delegates and their families.
