Echols to face Williams!

By Jesse Kelley

“Kid Dynamite” Antwun Echols (31-10-4, 27 KOs) of Iowa has signed to face Phil Williams (10-1, 9 KOs) of Minneapolis this Friday June 5th at the Grand Casino in Hinckley, MN. Echols was brought in after Jaidon Codrington fell out as the opponent this past weekend. Echols, 37, is a former NABF and USBA title holder at middle and super middleweight. The bout will be at a weight of 170. This will be the lightest Williams will have weighed since making his pro debut in 2006. However, Williams was already at 170 last week when he informed that he would face any Minnesota fighter at 160 or above. The co-main event pits Marcus ” Native Pride” Oliveria (17-0) and Otis “Triple OG” Griffin (19-5-2) together in a light heavyweight battle. Oliveria topped Phil Williams in one of the most exciting MN bouts in 2008 and looks to keep his unbeaten streak against Griffin who is best known for winning the reality show “The Next Great Champ.”

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.
