Ed Mahone returns

By Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing

Former world heavyweight challenger Ed Mahone (24-9-2,23KO’s) of the USA will be in action on Saturday when he will clash with Australian heavyweight contender Justin Whitehead (4-0,2KO’s) at the Cranbourne Racetrack, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Mahone challenged Vitali Klitschko unsuccessfully in 1999 for the WBO title. In 2006 he lost to heavyweight contenders Eddie Chambers in four rounds and Alexander Povetkin in five rounds. Mahone has been based in New Zealand for several months.

Whitehead is a former 2000 Sydney Olympian and had the biggest win of his career in 2009 winning a split decision in ten over Solomon Haumono.

Former world rated 168 pounder Daniel Lovett (18-4,10 KOs) will punch it out with Shane McConville (3-0-4) over ten rounds with the Australian 175 pound title up for grabs. Lovett lost in eight rounds to WBA #7 Tim Bell in 2008.

Flyweight Omari Kimweri (5-2, 2 KOs) will meet Matt Meredith (3-6-1, 1 KO) for the vacant national crown over ten rounds.

WBO-rated 122 pounder Daniel Iannazzo (15-0, 4 KOs) and WBO-rated 154 pounder Samuel Colomban (14-3, 6 KOs) will also be in action on undercard bouts.
