WBC lightweight world champion Edwin Valero (25-0, 25 KOs) looked sharp in a public workout in advance of Saturday’s title defense against Hector Velázquez (51-13-2, 35 KOs) at the Polideportivo José María Vargas in La Guaira, Venezuela. “We’re in the prior days to the fight and for that reason we should wind down. Already we are practically ready, we just need to comply with the weight.” Valero prepared to this bout for three months and sparred some 90 rounds. He’s looking forward to fighting for the Venezuelan public, “I ask the fans to come and accompany me, and if in case they can’t do it, then see it on television at 7:30 pm.” If Valero wins as expected, he is slated to face interim champion Antonio DeMarco in a highly attractive clash televised by SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING on February 6.
