Twenty-year-old Ivan Morales (17-0, 12 KOs) pays homage to his eldest sibling – the legendary Eric Morales – with the nickname “Terrible II” and this Saturday he continues the legacy when he takes on countryman and former world title challenger Luis Maldonado in the ten-round main event of Saturday’s TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo” at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA.
Morales, a southpaw with impressive power, turned professional in 2009. In April, he captured the WBC International Silver super flyweight belt.
Golden Boy Promotions signed the 20-year old protégé back in August.
“As the brother of Erik and Diego Morales, you know that Ivan learned to fight from the best,” said Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. “When you mix his technical skills, power and speed with his youth and determination, I have no doubt that Ivan will eventually be a world champion in multiple divisions.”
Maldonado (38-8-1, 29 KOs), a three-time world title challenger, has faced Nonito Donaire, Fernando Montiel, Eric Morel and Vic Darchinyan. The 34-year-old veteran has the ability to upset the young Morales.
The undercard features several young-and-upcoming fighters from the southern California including featherweight Julian Ramirez (3-0, 3 KOs) of Los Angeles, heavyweight Daniel Gonzalez (2-1, 1 KO) out of Bellflower; jr welterweight Giovanni Santillan (4-0, 2 KOs) from San Diego, LA heavyweight Razvan Cojanu (4-1, 1 KO), and jr lightweight Aaron Acevado (2-0-1, 2 KOs) fighting out of Bellflower.
Morales vs. Maldonado is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Ringside Ticket. Doors open at 6p and the first bell rings at 7p. A limited amount of tickets are available by calling (877) 711-2946 or visiting www.pechanga.com.
