Elbaum in Buffalo Hall

Bob Caico

By Bob Caico

Longtime matchmaker and promoter Don Elbaum was inducted into the Ring 44 Buffalo Boxing Hall of Fame on Friday night. In 1967 after a four-year drought of professional boxing in Buffalo, Elbaum decided to set up shop in the area. Don promoted local cards featuring hometown stars as Dick Wipperman, Jimmy Ralston, and Vic Brown as well as national fighters as Floyd Patterson. During a four-year period Elbaum promoted 18 shows until 1971 and he lived up to his promise of having a Buffalo boxing revival. Also in inducted into the Buffalo Hall of Fame were Rick Glaser, Lee Bohles, Luke Carr, Bill Hackmer and Dick Hall. Further information can be attained at

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
