Erik Morales clarifies status

By Gabriel F. Cordero

Mexican ring legend Érik “El Terrible” Morales has declared that he’ll continue to be independent as as a boxer under the banner of his company Box Latino. However, Morales did confirm a business relationship with Golden Boy Promotions and Oscar De la Hoya that will consist of him offering his boxers for GBP cards as well as the possibility of fighting in some GBP-promoted mega boxing events in the USA or Mexico. “I am not with Golden Boy,” said Morales. “At this point in my career it doesn’t interest me to sign with any company. We are going to work together, but independently. It’s very different to work with Golden Boy, rather than for Golden Boy.” Morales’ next opponent is GBP prospect Vicente Escobedo on July 17 at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana, Baja California.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
