Escalante to face Lock!

Friday night’s ESPN2 card at UTEP’s Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas, is headlined by the 10-round featherweight showdown between local El Paso hero Antonio Escalante (19-2, 13 KOs) and Cornelius Lock (17-4-1, 10 KOs). In the co-featured bout, scheduled for eight rounds in the junior featherweight division, Juan Velasquez (9-0, 5 KOs) takes on his toughest test to date when he battles veteran Jose Angel Beranza (31-15-2, 25 KOs). Opening the night of televised bouts will be featherweight star Carlos Velasquez (10-0, 9 KOs), Juan’s twin brother, who will square off against Juan Nazario (6-1-1, 4 KOs) in a six round contest. The evening of boxing is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions. Tickets $20-$75 are available at the UTEP Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
