2008 U.S. Olympian Shawn Estrada (15-0, 13KO) demolished previously unbeaten Felix Piedra (9-1-1, 6KO) dropping him hard in his own corner midway through round two with a barrage of punches on Saturday night at the Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City, California. Piedra attempted to get up but was on very unsteady legs and holding himself up with the ropes, prompting referee Jack Rees to wave an end to the scheduled eight round light heavyweight main event at 1:23 of the second round.
In semi main event action, a scheduled 8 round light heavyweight contest, Anatolia Dudchenko (15-2, 10KO) went the distance, a career long eight rounds, to win a unanimous decision victory over stepping stone Alfredo Contreras (11-14-3, 4KO). All three judges scored the bout 80-72.
In a special attraction, a scheduled 4 round light welterweight bout, Leon Spinks III (2-0-1, 1KO) seemed to win every round, but had to settle for a majority draw, against Eduardo Melendez (0-2-1). Spinks, the grandson of former heavyweight champion, Leon Slinks, was rightfully irate with the decision. Judge Lou Motet scored the bout for Spinks 39-37 but was overruled by Judges Carla Caiz and Barry Druxman, who both scored the bout 38-38.
