Feast of boxing for SA fight fans

South African boxing fans are in for a feast of boxing in the next two weeks with three tournaments coming up. Branco Milenkovic of Branco Productions puts on a bumper bill on November 20 and Andre Kerr of Seconds Out Promotions presents a nine-bout bill on November 27 and then on November 30 Jeff Ellis of African Ring in conjunction with Golden Gloves Promotions presents his “Christmas Cracker” Box and Dine tournament.

First up on Novermber 20 will be an IBF title, two continental belts and a South African title at stake in the Branco Sports Productions bill at the Wembley Arena in Johannesburg.

In the main bout Moruti Mthalane meets Mexican Julio Cesar Miranda in a clash for the vacant IBF flyweight belt.

Zolani Tete returns to action after a long layoff when he faces Tanzanian Anthony Matthias for the vacant WBO Africa flyweight title.

Michael Schultz and Tanzanian Tineyo Maridzo will fight for the WBO Africa interim super middleweight crown.

Klaas Mboyane and Cleutus Mbele are scheduled to meet for Mboyane’s SA bantamweight title.

Jeffrey Mathebula takes on Tanzanian Rashid Ally in a six round junior featherweight bout.

At a press conference held at the Clearwater Mall near Roodepoort on Tuesday, Andre Kerr of Seconds Out Boxing Promotions announced the final bill for his November 27 tournament.

This will be Kerr’s second tournament and it will be held at the Wembley Indoor Arena in Johannesburg.

Heading the nine-fight bill will be the exciting young junior heavyweight Johnny Muller who is trained by former South African lightweight champion Peet Bothma.

The unbeaten Muller who has won all his fights inside the distance meets Mongezi Ndzamela in a bout scheduled for six rounds.

In another six rounder the talented Kgotla Baeti from Botswana who fights out of the Colin Nathan, Hotbox Gym faces Samkelo Fani.

Another young fighter to watch is Marcel Jafta who meets Vusumzi Manyoni in a featherweight bout scheduled for six rounds.

Other bouts: Junior flyweight, 6 rounds: Charity Mukondeleli v Muleki Fukile; Middleweight, 4 rounds: Sylvester Zack v Solomon Letsoale; Lightweight, 6 rounds: Thompson Mokwana v Takalani Dangala; Super middleweight, 4 rounds: Earl Strydom v Benjamin Wessel; Junior middleweight, 6 rounds: Nkululeko Mhlongo v John Mokgotsa; Junior heavyweight, 4 rounds: Kali Kalembe v Gonorenda Sting.

Jeff Ellis of African Ring in conjunction with Golden Gloves Promotions has come with an outstanding bill for the tournament to be held at Emperor’s Palace’s Theatre of Marcellus near Kempton mark on November 30.

In the main bout Jason Bedeman the IBO Africa lightweight champion meets Joseph Modesi in an eight round non-title fight.

This fight should be a cracker after their first bout of toe-toe action which ended in a draw after 8 rounds.

Lightweight Grant Fourie who was stopped by Bedeman in his last fight returns to action against Thulane Mbatha in a six rounder.

In a heavyweight bout over 4 rounds Stephen Castle meets Tyrone Churchill and newcomer Florante Simba who will be having his second pro bout goes in against an opponent still to be named.
