Andrzej Fonfara (23-2, 13 KOs) was awarded a seventh round TKO after Tommy Karpency (21-4, 14 KOs) injured his shoulder and was unable to continue on Friday night at the UIC Pavilion in downtown Chicago. Fonfara floored Karpency twice in the opening round almost ending the bout. Karpency made a fight of it, but Fonfara was the last man standing at the end to win the vacant IBO light heavyweight world championship. (More to come)
UPDATE: “We are on the way to the hospital,” the ‘Polish Price’ told Fightnews.com. “I think my right hand is broken and from the start of the second round I was afraid to throw any punches, to not make things even worse.” –Przemek Garczarczyk
