Evangelista Cotto, the well known trainer, manager and uncle of WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto, today filed a lawsuit against his nephew. The lawsuit alleges that Miguel Cotto breached a management contract signed in January of 2001. According to the complaint, Miguel Cotto owes his uncle and former manager millions of dollars. Additionally, Evangelista Cotto has filed suit based on a highly publicized April 7 incident in which Evangelista claims Miguel unjustly and surprisingly punched him, causing him serious physical and emotional damages. “This has been a very difficult situation for me and my family. I wouldn’t wish this upon anyone. It is very painful to have to accept that a person that is so close to you for so many years could act like Miguel has acted”, said Evangelista Cotto in a statement. “Many things have been said about the incident and about me that are not true. My hope is that this process will allow the truth to be known.”
