Fortuna stops Lorenzo in three

By Robert Coster

Former WBA interim featherweight champion Javier Fortuna stopped Francisco Lorenzo in three rounds and paved the way for his next fight on the undercard of the upcoming Martinez-Cotto showdown. Fortuna (24-0-1, 18 KOs) totally overwhelmed Lorenzo (39-13, 17 KOs), knocking him down in the third round and forcing the veteran boxer to quit on his stool. The bout was held in the jr lightweight class.

In another fight, up-and-coming Julio De Jesus (20-1, 19 KOs) won the WBA Latino jr Welterweight crown with a fourth round stoppage of countryman Abraham Peralta (12-3, 10 KOs).

The card was held at the Pedro Julio Nolasco Coliseum in La Romana, Dominican Republic and presented by Sampson Productions and Manguita Promotions.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
