The  professional debut of a former amateur standout is always a special occasion and this Friday night, July 9th will be no exception as Alantez “TEZ” Fox of Forrestville, Maryland, will face off against Toledo’s Najee Hayes in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

The Fox/Hayes scheduled four round welterweight bout is one of the feature attractions at the “Mason Dixon Showdown” at Orchards Restaurant and Lounge, 1580 Orchard Drive in Chambersburg, PA. Tickets and more information can be obtained by calling 304-283-3053.

Just 18 year old, the 6’ 4” Fox capped off a fantastic amateur career by taking first place in the welterweight division at the 2010 Under – 19 National Championships in Cincinnati, Ohio, this past February.

‘My training has been great leading up to this week, I’ve been a little nervous but that’s to be expected” said Fox. “After this bout I want to stay active and fight as much as possible. I’m anxious to get as much experience as a professional as quickly as possible.”

Earlier this month, Fox signed with fast rising, international promotional company, TKO Boxing Promotions who plan to keep him busy and developing. He will be coming back Saturday, July 31st on the “Battle of York V” show at the Sovereign Bank Stadium in York, PA.

Said Chet Koerner, President of TKO Boxing Promotions, “We’re very excited to have Alantez make his pro debut this Friday night. Alantez is a special prospect; he’s only 18 year old but is very well prepared to enter the professional ranks.”

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
