Francisco Contreras joins Garcia

Highly talented and hard hitting lightweight prospect Francisco Contreras (15-0, 13 KOs) of the Dominican Republic joins former junior lightweight champion Robert Garcia and his ever growing stable of fighters, at Robert Garcia Boxing Academy in Oxnard, CA. The 26 year-old Contreras wasted no time getting accustomed to his new surroundings having already began training and assisting WBA # 1 lightweight contender “Bam Bam” Brandon Rios (26-0-1, 19 KOs) prepare for his upcoming fight against WBA lightweight champion Miguel Acosta (28-3-2, 22 KOs), which takes place February 26th.

“He got here this past weekend and began training with us on Saturday. He’s very talented, he’s got quick hands and hits very hard,” said chief trainer Robert Garcia. “He sparred with Brandon Rios on Monday so he’s going to be helping out Brandon prepare for his upcoming fight with Acosta. I’m glad he’s here with us, we’re happy to have him here in Oxnard,” continued Garcia.

In his last outing, Contreras defeated Eric Cruz (7-6-3, 7 KOs) of Puerto Rico via unanimous decision in July of last year at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, CA.
