Tonight at the General Motor Place in Vancouver, Canada for UFC 115: The career of legend Chuck “Iceman” Liddell likely came to a close tonight when former UFC middleweight champ Rich “Ace” Franklin scored a first round knockout over the former light-heavyweight champion. With just five seconds remaining in round one, Franklin, fighting with broken left arm that was injured blocking a kick, scored a right hand counter that put Liddell out cold.
In the co-main event, Mirko Cro Cop defeated Pat Barry with a rear naked choke hold at 4:36 of round three. In a distance fight, Martin Kampmann won a unanimous decision over Paulo Thiago, with scores of 30-27 x 3. Ben Rothwell got the unanimous nod over Gilbert Yvel, scores of 30-27 and 29-28 twice. Former WEC welter champ Carlos Condit took out Rory MacDonald with strikes at 4:53 of round three.
In other results: Evan Dunham won by split nod over Tyson Griffin (30-27, 29-28 and 28-29); Matt Wiman won by guillotine choke over Mac Danzig at 1:45 of round one; Mario Miranda TKO’d David Loiseau at 4:07 of round two; James Wilks won unanimously over Peter Sobotta (30-27 twice and 30-28); Claude Patrick won by submission over Ricardo Funch at 1:48 of round two; and Mike Pyle won by triangle choke over Jesse Lennx at 4:44 of the third.
