Former super featherweight and lightweight world champion Acelino “Popo” Freitas (39-2, 33 KOs) returned as a junior middleweight and schooled previously unbeaten middleweight Michael “The Brazilian Rocky” Oliveira (17-1, 12 KOs) on Saturday night at the Conrad Hotel & Casino in Punta del Este, Uruguay. Freitas dropped Oliveira with a series of clean shots at the end of round three. Unfortunately for Popo, the bell rang before he could do any more damage. Big round seven for Freitas as he took over the fight from that point on and Popo dropped Oliveira twice in round nine to end it. Time was 2:09. The Oliveira team lured the 36-year-old Brazilian ring legend Freitas out of a five year retirement and Popo (now a Brazilian congressman) made good on his promise to KO Oliveira for trying to make a name for himself against him.
