A reliable source has informed that the IBF has ordered negotiations to begin for a bout between two-time world title challenger Ali Funeka (30-2-3, 25 KOs) and IBF world ranked Rolando Reyes (31-4-2, 20 KOs) for the vacant IBF lightweight title. Funeka is coming off of what many felt was a controversial draw he should have won with former two-divisional world champion Joan Guzman (29-0-1, 17 KOs). Team Guzman afterward released a statement defending the draw. Guzman is currently on medical suspension due to a fractured nose and stitches suffered from his bout with Funeka. Team Guzman had complained of headbutts on the part of Funeka to Guzman throughout their bout. An letter was sent to all parties from the IBF informing them of Funeka vs. Reyes. Guzman is on a 30 day suspension and this is the reason why the IBF bypassed him at this time to contend for the world title. The parties have 30 days to reach an agreement.
