Former light heavyweight champion Gabriel ‘Chico Guapo’ Campillo (21-4-1, 8 KOs) of Spain, but now residing in Oxnard, California, continues his preparation as he takes on undefeated Sergey Kovalev (18-0-1, 16 KOs) on Friday September 21st in a 10-round bout on the NBC Sports Network Fight Night Boxing Series live from the Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania which is being presented by Main Events along with Peltz Boxing and Sampson Boxing.
Also in action that night will be welterweight Ronald Cruz (17-0, 12 KOs) taking on Antwone ‘The Truth’ Smith (21-4-1, 12 KOs) for the WBC Continental Americas welterweight title, as well as junior middleweight Gabriel ‘King’ Rosado (20-5, 12 KOs) facing Charles ‘Killa’ Whittaker (38-12-2, 23 KOs) to determine the mandatory challenger to face IBF junior middleweight champion Cornelius ‘K9’ Bundrage (32-4, 19 KOs).
In his last outing, the southpaw Campillo, who is managed by middleweight king Sergio ‘Maravilla’ Martinez and trained by former junior welterweight champion Pablo Sarmiento out of the Maravilla Box Boxing Gym, lost a controversial split decision in an action-filled fight against current IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris ‘Thunder’ Cloud (24-0, 19 KOs) this past February at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
