Gamboa ready to fight, 50 Cent ready to promote

The Cyclone of Guantanamo Yuriorkis Gamboa (21-0, 16 KOs) is ready to return to the ring as he worked out Thursday for media at Fortune Gym in Hollywood, California. The former world champion and 2004 Cuban Olympic gold medalist will take on Michael Farenas (33-3-4, 25 KOs), of Paranque City, Philippines, for the vacant WBA interim super featherweight title. “It has gone very well with training camp in Miami and now we are in the final phases of our camp in Las Vegas.” Gamboa told “I am definitely anxious to return that is what keeps me motivated,” he added.

The last time Yuriorkis Gamboa stepped foot in the ring was in September of 2011 scoring an eight round technical decision win after a head butt over current WBC Featherweight champion Daniel Ponce de Leon. Now 14 months later Gamboa looks to get back in the ring and shine for his new promoter.

“I know my opponent is a Filipino southpaw and he is a replacement, just a fighter,” he stated when asked about Farenas.

Regarding his new promoter, Gamboa stated, “I look forward to fighting under his banner for the first time next Saturday. He is a great artist as well as businessman. He will do good for himself and I have to do my job come fight night.”

Gamboa vs. Farenas will be the co-main event on the undercard of Pacquiao Marquez IV next Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, live on HBO PPV.
