Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum said today he will contact the Olympic Committee and ask to get a new gold medal for Yuriorkis Gamboa. “That’s my goal, to get a gold medal for him,” Arum said. Gamboa won an Olympic gold medal in 2004 in Athens, Greece, at 112 pounds while fighting for the Cuban national team. He later sold the medal for $1,500 to pay for daughter Brenda’s first birthday party. Gamboa, 27, now lives and trains in Miami, Fla. He is the WBA interim featherweight champion and next fights on Top Rank’s Latin Fury 10 championship card in Nueveo Vallarta, Mexico on July 25. Gamboa will defend against Whyber Garcia of Panama.
