World Boxing Federation President Howard Goldberg who has done tremendous work in regenerating the organisation since taken over as president has just returned from Malta where he announced at a press conference that former WBC super middleweight champion Robin Reid from England and William Gare of South Africa will meet for the vacant WBF super middleweight belt.
The fight is scheduled to take place on August 17 at an open air arena in Ta’Qali, Malta and will possibly be the first ever “world” title fight in Malta.
Reid (42-7-1, 29 KOs) who won the WBC belt in October 1996 is well known to South African fans as retained the belt in his first defence against Giovanni Pretorius but lost to another South African when he was outpointed by Thulani “Sugarboy” Malinga in London in December 1997.
On the undercard Tony Dodson (28-7-1, 14 KOs) a former British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion will be fighting for the vacant WBF International light heavyweight title against an opponent still to be announced.
