Fightnews has learned that both sides have agreed to a proposed fight between Canadian bantamweight champion Andrew Singh Kooner and hard hitting Sebastien Gauthier. “We’ve been contacted and have agreed,” said Stephane Larouche of Interbox. “We’ve got a proposed date for June and this could be fight of the year between these two,” promised Larouche. Kooner (9-1 4KO), a two-time Olympian, has rattled off five straight victories since suffering his only career defeat in England in 2006. to Gauthier is 15-1 with 11 knockouts
“Fans of Montreal won’t recognize him,” promised Adam Harris of Hennessy Sports of Kooner who has over half of his ten career fights taking place in the city. “He’s a lot more confident and aggressive fighter since moving back to Ontario and training with Chris Johnson.”
Gauthier, like his opponent, is also on the road back from his only career defeat. After moving into the world rankings and a top ten position, Gauthier fell to the hands of former world title challenger Eduardo Garcia. Since that time Gauthier has reeled off four successive victories of his own.
