Gavin wins by TKO, breaks Vassell’s jaw

In a clash of unbeaten welterweights, British titlist Frankie Gavin (16-0, 12 KOs) was victorious when Commonwealth beltholder Denton Vassell (20-1, 10 KOs) couldn’t continue after seven rounds due to a broken jaw on Friday night night at the Liverpool Olympia. Gavin, England’s first ever world amateur boxing champion and member of the 2008 Olympic team, demonstrated his smooth counter-punching skills and mostly dominated the agressive Vassell.

Earlier Commonwealth super flyweight titleholder Paul Butler (12-0, 7 KOs) scored a fourth round KO against overmatched Najah Ali (5-4-1, 1 KO).
