After a thorough review of the fight between Boris Berg and Matt Zegan on Sunday at the “Altes Funkwerk” in Berlin, the German Boxing Association Board has suspended the referee in charge. According to the GBA, referee Matthias Eichler was the sole judge in the fight, but he was intimidated by the audience and had Berg announced as the winner even though the fight was scored a draw. They say the official verdict was always a draw and wasn’t changed at any time. The GBA also confirmed that some judge candidates were being tested that night, but only the referee was authorized to score the fight and the trio’s scores were unofficial. All parties have been heard and according to the GBA, they now fully accept the official verdict.
