World middleweight contender Daniel Geale (21-1, 13 KOs) is in excellent shape for the October 21 showdown for the IBF Pan Pacific title bout against Brazil’s Samir Barbosa (22-5-3, 13 KOs) at the Silverdome in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. Geale was confident of victory when he said: “Training has gone very well with my trainer Graham Shaw at the Grange gym. We have seen Barbosa on tape and he looks good but I am confident of victory. Graham and myself are certain we can lift my performance by 30% from my fight with Anthony Mundine.” (Geale dropped a disputed twelve round split decision to Mundine in May when most fans in attendance and nearly all boxing writers had Geale a clear winner.)
Brazil’s Samir Barbosa is a replacement for Roberto Reuque who pulled out of the fight. Barbosa has a great knockout record having stopped 17 opponents in 30 fights and has extended world rated middleweights Khoren Gevor and Sebastain Zbik dropping decisions to them in Germany in 2008. In the main supporting bout, IBO 160 pound champion Anthony Mundine (36-3, 23 KOs) will clash with Alejandro Falliga (17-5-3, 6 KOs) of Argentina over twelve rounds. Falliga was stopped in five rounds by world rated Andy Lee and dropped decisions to Rafael Pintos and Luciano Cuello in 2008. The promotion will be televised live on Foxtel Main Event Pay-Per-View throughout Australia. Promoter: Bill Treacy.
