George Foreman Returns to Boxing

Former two-time world heavyweight champion, George Foreman, announced his return to boxing today. But this is no comeback as a fighter. It’s his professional debut as a boxing promoter! Foreman has teamed up with his sons to form Foreman Boys Promotions.

“I have worked for years with my sons in the business world and I am excited to introduce them to the boxing world, ” said the senior Foreman. Foreman Boys Promotions will team with Top Rank in a strategic alliance, including the Solo Boxeo Tecate series, bringing Foreman’s legacy and branding power to the promotional side of boxing. The Foremans also plan on promoting goodwill and unity to the sport of boxing.

“It was a privilege to promote George Foreman’s comeback fights which led to a world championship,” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum. “Now it is great we are working with George’s sons to continue the relationship and to promote boxing at a high level.”

The first Foreman Boys Promotions/TopRank event will take place April 27, beginning at 8:00 P.M., at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. Televised live by UniMás, the Solo Boxeo Tecate card will feature two lightweight battles, featuring NABF lightweight champion and #4 world-rated contender Raymundo Beltran, of Los Mochis, Sonora, México, and undefeated Ivan Najera, of San Antonio, in separate bouts.

Tickets, priced at $150 VIP (includes pre-fight VIP reception and dinner), $50, $30 and $20, go on sale Friday, March 29, and can be purchased at the Erwin Center Box Office, online at or via phone charge at 1-800-982-2386. All seating will be on the floor and in the lower bowl level.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
