On Friday, Telefutura’s weekly boxing series “Solo Boxeo Tecate” returns to San Diego, CA, once again this year to broadcast local lightweight sensation Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta (19-0-1, 9KOs) as he takes on the KO artist Ivan “Relampago” Valle (28-9-3, 24KOs) in the eight round main event. In the co-feature, Riverside, CA’s Michael Franco (16-0, 11KOs) faces veteran Adolfo Landeros (20-15-1, 9KOs) in a featherweight scheduled eight rounder. The night is presented by Golden Boy Promotions with Don Chargin Promotions in association with Jorge Marron Productions and Bobby D. Presents.
The southpaw Gesta has put together a stellar year stringing together three wins going back to February of this year when he went the distance with Cristian Favela over eight rounds. Four months later in June, Gesta captured the WBO Youth lightweight title when he stopped Oscar Meza in the fourth round with a body shot and came back in August to stop Genaro Tranzacos in seven. Now the twenty-three year old “No Mercy” will face his most experienced foe in Valle of Los Mochis, Mex, who in a thirteen year career has faced such elite competition as Javier Jauregui, Urbano Antillon and Humberto “Zorrita” Soto. In his last bout, Valle was awarded a ten round split decision over Josefat Perez and now is looking to stop the Gesta express.
After suffering an eye ailment that forced Franco to postpone his last outing, the “Lil Warrior” is back and is ready to take on tough veteran Landeros in his first fight of 2010. Landeros, no stranger to San Diego as he battled Christopher Martin last June in “America’s Finest City”, will certainly provide Franco with some much needed rounds.
In a much anticipated four round bout, Mexican amateur standout Christian Bojorquez of Tijuana, Mex, will make his professional debut as he takes on fellow first timer Salvador Cifuentes of Chula Vista, CA, in the super bantamweight division.
Never in a boring fight, local undefeated featherweight Pablo “Bronco” Armenta (3-0-1, 1KO) will trade leather against San Jacinto, CA’s Ronald Hurley (4-4-2) in a four round bout while Amaris “La Reyna” Quintana (2-0-2) of La Mesa, CA, faces Gloria Salas (3-4-1, 1KO) for the third time in the jr. flyweight division. In their first match up, Quintana earned a unanimous decision in her debut and four months later did it again with another close decision. This time, Salas hopes to turn the tables and hand Quintana her first loss.
One more bout fleshes out the card.
