In an important heavyweight clash televised by NBC, Tomasz Adamek (48-2, 29 KOs) won a split decision over Steve “USS” Cunningham (25-5, 12 KOs) in a much anticipated rematch on Saturday night before 1,950 at the sold out Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Adamek pressed the action and landed the heavier shots as Cunningham boxed beautifully working behind a consistent jab. Most rounds were close and competitive. Scores were 115-113 Cunningham, 116-112 and 115-113 for Adamek, who will now meet Euro champ Kubrat Pulev in a final eliminator for a shot at world champion Wladimir Klitschko. Adamek also won the first fight by split decision. Ring announcer Michael Buffer initially announced the fight as a draw, later amending it to an Adamek win.
In the heavyweight opener, unbeaten 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Vyacheslav Glazkov (14-0, 10 KOs) scored a fourth round TKO over “Prizefighter” tournament winner Tor Hamer (19-2, 12 KOs) when Hamer failed to come out for round five. Glazkov outclassed Hamer, progressively breaking down Hamer who quit on his stool.
