The California Boxing Commission re-examined the scorecards from Saturday night’s (Sept. 12) boxing card at the Red Lion Hotel in Sacramento and the check showed that IBF No. 3 cruiserweight contender Matt Godfrey (20-1) won his 10-round main event by a split decision over hometowner Michael Simms (20-12-2) and not by the announced majority decision. The corrected judges’ scores, according to AtCom inspector Mike Guzman, are 96-93 and 95-94 for Godfrey, reigning NABF champ from Providence, R.I., and 95-94 for Simms. There was no even scorecard.
