Unbeaten WBC #1 ranked middleweight Billie “El Nino” Godoy (26-0, 13 KOs) unanimously decisioned Argentine countryman, former world title challenger, and WBC #15 ranked Sebastian Heiland (19-3-2, 9 KOs) after 12 thrilling rounds. The official judges’ scorecards read 115-111 twice and 114-112 all in favor to Godoy.
Godoy got off to a good start in round one dropping Heiland who easily beat the count and didn’t seem seriously hurt. Godoy controlled distance and got the better of many exchanges up until the middle rounds of the fight. Toward the end of round seven the southpaw Heiland dropped the righty Godoy hard to the canvas. Godoy arose on seriously shaky legs and seemed like he was ready to go but the bell sounded seconds later ending the round. Godoy got his legs back the following round and the two exchanged heavy leather several times from the eighth round until the final bell in between alot of mauling and clinches.
The bout was a WBC middleweight title final eliminator. The current world champion is Andre Ward.
