Golden Boy files WBC protest

Golden Boy Promotions has filed a protest with the WBC over the ruling of technical knockout after GBP fighter Bernard Hopkins was unable to continue in the fight last Saturday due to an injury he sustained after being pushed down by Chad Dawson. The WBC is reviewing the video of the WBC light heavyweight world title bout, which was held in Los Angeles, California, and is communicating with the WBC Board of Governors to render a decision that is strictly in accordance with the regulations.

“A boxing commission can make independent decisions regarding results, but the World Boxing Council, exclusive and worldwide registered owner of its trademark WBC, must take charge of the world title results that only correspond to the organization,” said WBC President Jose Sulaiman. “We think that by the end of this week, we will have the result of the world voting regarding this matter.”

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
