After spending 21 years as a permanent resident in the United States, former heavyweight contender Andrew Golota is facing deportation to his native Poland. According to the Chicago Tribune, Golota problems started when he applied to become a U.S. citizen, triggering a criminal background check which brought to light a 2006 conviction on 12 misdemeanor counts of possessing unregistered firearms, for which he was fined $3,600 and received six months of court supervision. This led to a deportation proceeding citing “moral turpitude” being filed against Golota. A decision could be rendered in September. His wife/attorney is a U.S. citizen.
